Sunny Dolat x V&A Museum: Africa Fashion Exhibition Opening

Huge congratulations to our very own Sunny Dolat for a gloriously successful opening of the Africa Fashion Exhibition at the V&A Museum in London! Sunny was a core part of the exhibition’s curatorial team, where he contributed his ideas, selections, networks, research, writing, strategy, and reflections to the exhibition, not to mention the film “In Their Finest Robes The Children Shall Return”, and excerpts from his short Looku.

SOAS x LIFT x The Nest Collective: Kitchen Conversations

In partnership with SOAS University of London and LIFT (the London International Festival of Theatre), we are thrilled to be exploring current engagement with pan-Africanisms across seas and borders through a series of inquiries called the "Kitchen Conversations". With the LIFT festival last week, the F + F London co-directors Njoki Ngumi and Mars Maasai hosted a 2-night series of salon-style conversations in Lewisham, London, that convened a multigenerational gathering of artists, culture makers, academics and community members who were Black and/or of immigrant origin.

Book Bunk x The Nest Collective - A Maze and A Time Capsule!

We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Book Bunk ‘Missing Bits’ exhibition project, which we partnered with them on! We have prepared two main offerings for the exhibition. We curated selections from various English and Kiswahili newspaper archives which were being kept by the library from the years 1963, 1973 and 1983. We were interested in how media pieces then echo current knowledge that we have now, or even add unexpected insights, thus start new and interesting conversations regarding social, cultural and political issues comparing Kenya now and Kenya back then.

Our very own Sunny Dolat was featured in TL Magazine’s article ‘Common Threads - Contemporary African Fashion’! In the article, Sunny talks about the challenges faced due to paucity of textile manufacturing facilities on the African continent. He also discusses his recent work, ‘Nanga’, that seeks to combine local sustainable practices with contemporary ideas and innovations, and his hopes for the future of Africa’s fashion industry.
